Welcome to the South Orange County Gem & Mineral Society
(SOCGEMS) website. Founded in 1962, SOCGEMS is a
nonprofit educational community resource dedicated to the appreciation of
gem stones, rocks and minerals, fossils, and all facets of earth science,
through educational programs, field trips, the collection and identification
of minerals and fossils, and the cutting and polishing of gem
stones. Our purpose is to acquire and dispense knowledge of lapidary
skills, geology, and the classification of gems, fossils,
rocks and minerals and their application to the arts,
including jewelry design and specimen preparation and display.
Our Society meets on the
third Wednesday of each month, (except December), at 7:30 PM in the San
Clemente Community Center, Multipurpose Room, 100 N. Calle Seville in
downtown San Clemente near the library. The public is always
welcome. For more information click here and
send us an email. Send a mailing address and we will send you the
current issue of our bulletin, The Tumble Rumble . There are many
"facets" to our hobby from studying fossils to jewelry making to digging
for treasure. Join us for fun and
fascination!
